I beat the game with side stuff in 30 hours. And the qte's are super simple and you can turn off the offensive ones and only deal with the dodging / parrying, you are missing out.
optimizing your builds and having to parry 10 times instead of 20 times is not fun.
The funny thing is the most optimized builds make it so you don't parry at all because you just wipe the floor with everything you are fighting. The game isn't for you and thats fine, i get bored with JRPGs usually but the parrying kept me engaged instead of just doing the same combos every engagement.
I also liked that the combat was more sparse and meaningful than most JRPGS that throw encounters at you every 5 steps

just being able to move around and having positional damage (for backs/sides) adds so much more variety to attacks and strategy i have no idea why it isn't the norm

Well you should have seen the "danger: low level" thing before you entered because thats an act 2 boss. You deal reduced dmg to things higher lvl than you so it takes awhile but of the chromatic bosses its the second easiest and doesn't do anything special so its easy to kill early.
In any other jrp where you cant parry it would be impossible to beat that boss so early but e33 lets you're skill speak for you instead of your stat bloat
