I thought yield meant "give right of way to other traffic" regardless of whether you stop or roll, so technically a stop sign is a yield sign too, but with an extra command added on top, to stop.
yield sign = yield (rolling or stopping as you see fit)

This is stupid because a lot of times the other road has a yield sign, but you have no sign or light! So you don't know which rule to follow unless you see the back of the yield sign. Geniuses.

Yes in 99% of cases you can see the back of the other persons yield sign, and you kinda also develop a instinct of which kind of intersection will have a yield sign as to where it makes sense.
But still, its extra work and brain load to have to look for yield signs on other roads, there should be a do-not-yield sign on yours.
