Buy medicines. Medicines are most valuable things in a crisis. Even above weapons. (Talking to you Americans) Because guns and bullets are dome a dozen in collapse. But medicines are not. The are limited, they get spoiled, they get expired and most important they need skill. In collapse you can pick and gun lying around, practice a few dozen shots and you learn it. But you can say the same for meds. You cannot just pof a dozen pills and hope one of them works

The hand crank is a small 3v motor and won't generate anything significant. You'll lose more energy which translates into more consumption of food and water.

The solar panel is again worthless for the size. Moreover you won't leave your radio out there in open for everyone to see for whole day. Not wise.

DON'T buy a Radio with flashlight. When you're buying a radio, buy just a radio. Flashlights are heavy consumption items and you'll spend all your battery using it as flashlight and there won't be anything left when you need to listen to radio.

Moreover with a shit light in your radio, you'll try to save money and probably skip buying a flashlight altogether which is a VERY BAD IDEA.

it comes with a replaceable 3000mah 18650 battery so plenty of battery life. I don't think the crank or solar is meant for anything except absolute last resort to get it going. I already have an emergency solar panel charger that folds up like a book so I would use that to charge up a USB power bank. I also have another USB power bank that is permacharging so I have 2-3 days of power at least for my phone (reading books, watching movies etc). Thinking about getting a full size solar panel and inverter that I can use to charge a car battery. In a TEOTWAWKI scenario there's going to be a lot of unused car batteries around when the gas stations run dry.

If you're wasting your resources then you're doing it wrong.

The key is to have a cycling pantry. Buy food in bulk. Cycle through. Don't go to shops everyday or every other day, go to your pantry. Then visit bulk shops every 3 months to replenish your pantry.

Same is with medicines. Get a couple months worth of stock. Cycle through. Most medicines have 2 years expiry so it's good. Less than 5% of our medicines go to waste (eg clotting compound, water purification tablets, $5 -10 a year)

It actually saves money. You get things cheaper when you buy in bulk. You buy fresh comparatively as you're buying higher in supply chain.

It's better because you can relax. Pandemic, wildfire, shooting, unrest, outage, hurricane when those happen you don't have to go outside. You don't have to buy stuff alike other panic buyers. You can just chill at home not worrying about anything.

Yeah I used to have a vape that used them and I have some 18650 flashlights so I have a bunch of decent ones. Every year or so I will throw some in the charger to make sure they have at least some charge if I need them.
My main prep is not for SHTF, it is to get through a 3-7 day emergency in relative comfort. In a major emergency I plan to stay in place and resist any evacuation attempts. I have a lot of animals here and I can't take them with me. I live near a gas station with thousands of gallons of gasoline and diesel and a mega supermarket that will have enough pallets of canned fish, canned beans, and sacks of rice for me to stockpile a year's food and fuel in just a day or two.

If the nukes fly, or a virus breaks out, or we're invaded by the Chinese or Americans then I just want to stay here with my animals and hide and fight on until we are dead. We all do eventually anyway.
First aid and trauma kit is a big underrated one. Skin stapler and wound closures will be worth more than their weight in gold. A scalpel, hemostatic clamps, and chitosan clotting powder and learn how to use them. Without a doctor or a hospital, small wounds and infections can be fatal. A stab or GSW to the belly will be fatal. Find "the ark" from Anon Babble, it has that FM and lots of others, and lots of other info about treating wounds, preserving, etc. I have it on an external drive with a USB-C cable I can access from my phone if power goes out.
