Philosophy and math should be mandatory for anyone attending school and those who can't succeed in either should be sent into the military or something early on where they can excel instead of wasting more time on "educating" them. Philosophy teaches critical thinking / logic skills and math is something only truly intelligent people can do. I can do philosophy but I absolutely can't do math.

It's because they barely eat anything at all so they can be lavish in what they spend money on to eat. Meanwhile I'm burning 6k calories a day as a 6'5" triathlete and constantly having to eat a ton of meals every day with each meal amounting to what one woman eats in like two days.

My mother was a commercial artist and she had to know a ton of math because most of what she did was patterns and making advertisements.

I can think of multiple reasons, but here's a really easy one, because it should have already been taught to them.

I learned this when I found out most social science majors, at all degree levels, calculus. A few have calculus for business / social science, but that is basically a conceptual math course. How do they publish statistics without knowing how any of the stats work at a fundamental level?

This is equivalent to saying that a math major has no need to pass an advanced English class at the university level. Every major should require calc 1-3, advanced English, Biology, Physics, Chem, Philosophy, mastery of a foreign language, and PE each quarter/semester.

I use basic math all day as well but its still retarded to force history majors to take algebra, trig or calculus when as many others have pointed out they would have already had some fundamental understanding of it and decided not to pursue it. There is no point in forcing them to do this shit when most people get through life knowing about multiplication, division, fractions and percentages. Engineering is one thing but history or law it something else.

That is not your normal collage math that is a physics or mathematics bachelor. Nobody in engineering learns about manifolds or Lebesque integration or ring theory or functional analysis or any of that stuff covered in the courses you mention. They don't do many proofs either. They just learn how to solve some optimization problems, a bit stochastics and some numerics. And that's engineering when you get down to humanitys then all they do is a refreshment of stuff they should have done in school like basic stochastics and some arithmetic not even limits or series or complex numbers or matrices are covered.

Idk about y'all but before we adopted the USA K-12 curriculum (unironically), every degree had a mandatory college algebra in my country. Topics include pre-calc stuff, quadratic eqns and shit maybe some calculus. Back then, males outnumbered females in colleges but since circa 2009 we adopted K-12 muttmerica globo-homo curriculum where they "supposedly" teach college algebra topics from grades 7-12 so that the students are "advanced". In reality, they teach neither at any level, so naturally femoids and brownoid SEA flips are accepted to every fucking degree in universities in my country after they graduate highschool. Anyways, what are y'alls favorite math-heavy courses? mine was finite element methods, something I thank the white man for.

Algebra isn't even that complicated. You use a very basic form of it any time you figure out the rate of expenditure of a line item or the ratio of one thing to another to arrive at the desired combination.
We used to teach those subjects even with our K-12 system, but then they forcibly integrated our schools at gunpoint, and we've nudged things out year by year to arrive at the sludge we've forced upon you.

But my own experience tells me that you generally need a very strong understanding, toolset, and sense of intuition to apply them and these topics will feel more theoretical until you get to that point. It was mandstory at my university. You either had to have a high enough ACT math score to test out of it, or you had to take 3 math classes. That was at a large Midwestern state university in the early 2000s though. This was regardless of major.
