The wild food thread

Did ypu know you can eat pic rel? At a certain time of year, typically the spring in the northern hemisphere, all pine trees produce new shoots at the tips of their branches. Steam them add salt, eat. This may be useful knowledge if civilization collapses. Share wild edibles that you know.

Did you know thousands of trees and plants all around you contain DMT? You can just harvest some bark, mix it with some chemicals and extract your own DMT in a few hours.

tea from them is great

I was collecting fiddlehead last week, weather is shit in my area for morels this year.
Do you harvest Chaga from birch?

This may be useful knowledge if civilization collapses.

check out the international canadian school of survival they have good online courses. I've learn a lot about survival and building my bugout bag.

Do white people even know about how the nature produces all the medicines in the form of herbs that animals need to heal themselves?

There was a lady in the 60's that walked across America eating grass (the juice).

Nope, never heard of it. It's a miracle we even exist without the wisdom of our little brown friends.

idk about everywhere else but where I live in texas if you find thick shortish (less than 2 feet) grass there is a good chance you will find wild vegetables growing in it. tiny peapods and shit like that.

The entire Kudzu plant is edible.

pine trees

those are spruce trees bucko

You can cold brew it into something like a link lemonade

tiny peapods

vetch?

Do you know which root to boil when you get infected with corona virus?

lol good catch.

Wow that looks cool, I didn't know such a plant exists

None because i never get the flu.

Pine shoots, pine needle tea and pine in general contains powerful medicinal compounds called terpenes. Specifically alpha-pinene. This terpene has anti-microbial, anti-parasitic and even anticancer properties, and is thought to be responsible for some of the pain and anxiety relieving properties of certain strains of cannabis, which are also high in these terpenes.

if your hungry just eat pine cones

why do you think indigenous were so eager to trade with euros? cause forage food here just isn't very good.

I like the confidence.

Pine pollen is also very close to human T. It is believed that pine pollen triggers the mating season in animals.

Sorry I call all trees with needles pine trees. But you're right, it's a spruce tree.

Absolutely not true. Certain pine species (the ponderosa pine for example) are toxic to humans. Don't listen to this moron.

ppl think "pine tree" is any tree with needles

You can also use pine to make soda, it will actually carbonate itself

The carbonation is mild compared to store goyslop, but it's there. Also you can add carbonation toit

Blueberries were originally called starberries due to the star shape on their fruits. The Indigenous people say that it was created to provide food for hungry orphans.

This plant requires little to no maintenance and fruits annually. The berries and syrup are medicinal and can be used to treat a range of ailments.

did you know there aren't any poisonous look-alikes for raspberry/blackberry so just eat it

You can also just buy standardized valerian root powder. This is a most based product for anxiety and sleep. Don’t over do it. 1 or 2 capsules.kw04hv

Morel mushrooms.
Here in Michigan, morels pop up every spring. It’s a popular pastime to harvest them with mushroom festivities and whatnot.

Morels are really yummy.

seeanddistinction with a difference

I got shadbush out here, but no blueberry

Berries, roots, and fungus are the most readily available wild foods.

Fish and wild game are the very energy efficient and this secures time away from securing calories for survival.

You can dry fish and game meat over a fire like this. Grinding it down into meat powder and combining with berries and salt preserves the meat.

This is called pemmican and it is the ultimate survival food. It can be carried in the pocket like an energy bar and provide sustenance for long journeys.

In a survival context, a surplus of meat can easily rot before it is completely consumed. Drying meat over a fire extends its shelf life substantially.

Sorry I call all trees with needles pine trees

Careful you don't find a yew, extremely poisonous

yew.jpg - 259x194, 10.45K

I got a shitload of birch, but no chaga. Was thinking of ordering a syringe full of live chaga ( the part you harvest is sterile ) and innoculating some grain then drilling holes in all my birch and putting a lil pop corn kernel full of chaga myceleum in and covering it with wax.. Maybe it grows chaga on the tree. Otherwise I'll probably get rid of it and encourage maple and oak to grow.

Actual pine trees, you can eat the nuts! Not all of them are tasty though.

Im not eating pine needles.

I made a lovely stinging nettle ham and cheeze quiche

The #1 wild food has to be fish.
Pic is a brown trout that I caught in a small tributary of the AuSable river in Northern Michigan. Every small stream or creek in northern Michigan contains brown trout, brook trout, and rainbow trout. Soooo yummy. Pan fried in butter right on the side of the stream, throw in some morels, it’s over.

I regularly steal kelp and sea lettuce from band land
Fight me feather niggers

the expensive ingredient in pesto...

Yew 'berries' aren't fruit. It's a case of convergent evolution. So I suppose they are fruit in the same way octopus eyes are still eyes even if they were built up separately.

Protip ring it in at self checkouts as peanuts and say whoops i have dyslexia if you get caught
90% of pine nuts go to dog food producing factories and they throw away years old stock worth thousands of dollars
Do not ever pay the pine nut cuck tax

A few trees around here completely shed their needles last fall then started growing those. First time I've never noticed them kek no idea how I missed them for so long.
I'll steam a few and post results tomorrow

Right now are spruce tips, devils club tips, fiddle head ferns, young horse tail shoots, dandy lions.

These three skills make the difference between struggling and thriving in the wilderness.

1. Building a shelter
2. Starting a fire
3. Securing meat

If you can secure cooked meat and shelter from the elements, you will have time and energy for work and even leisure.

hqdefault(1).jpg - 480x360, 26.29K

Yeah, fish and fowl is the best option. SERE training recommends a 4x4 window screen folded up in your kit to catching fish.

you can eat the flesh of the berries, just not the seed

They used to import them from china and they'd give you pine mouth.

Not all pine nuts do this. Only some species. They taste great when you're eating them but then... They should market them for dieters.

bonappetit.com/story/pine-nut-mouth-syndrome

It's not pennies, unless they mean bitter. It's just nasty.

I had this in early 2000s.

Maybe it's to discourage squirrels from being too hungry.

Do you get Trout Lilly's?

I'll definitely try it, but, desu, looks poisonous.

I take pine pollen tablets when I can afford it. I think it helps with correct decision making. You can think further steps ahead and collect more detail

there are other things called sumac that are poisonous. I think they're a different species and genus than the edible sumac

That's what turpentine is. Distilled pine gum spirits, not the petroleum based turpentine. It's antiparasitic and antifungal.
It is but I don't think it increases testosterone. Maybe for a small animal inhaling some dust, but not larger humans.

Around about mothers day in the north east, this stuff is ready. Wild garlic! Grows in the hills, just got to find it. Pic it. Pickle it. I have heard it also exists in Tennessee and North Carolina in the Smokey mountains, although I don't know a lot about it there.

s-l1200 (2).jpg - 1200x900, 438.29K

Sumac is kino i rape a bunch every august in northern bc
Its kino although i think its a non native species

Are they good?

we call that wild leeks or ramps. good with fish

That sounds good. Throw it in a soda stream for extra carbonation.

Pine pollen is also a complete protein with 22 amino acids. Containing more than 100 enzymes, and more than 15 vitamins and 30 minerals, along with all the essential fatty acids. It’s also the richest known source for testosterone boosting plant sterols and brassinosteroids.

No, I'm in Alaska.

Pine pollen grains are literally the testicles of the pine tree. Billions upon billions of floating ballsacks lofted on the breeze. They release their 'sperm' when they arrive at the female cone. MMMM Female Cone.

female-cone.jpg - 375x450, 14.78K

sheeeiiit walking in the forest is gay now. you're inhaling plant sperm

No plant Balls. The sperm is inside.

And the seeds of gymnosperms like pines are NAKED.

yew

the berries are edible but the seeds are highly toxic

That's stupid. If society collapses I'm hunting and fishing for meat. Not eating stupid twigs and berries like a fag.

also monoecious, meaning both male and female reproductive organs on the same tree (as with most trees and plants)

gb2/ck/

Seasonal allergies are allergies to plant spooge.

Neighborhood gardens are a ready source of free food. Best harvested late at night to preserve maximum freshness.

The female cones are usually high up on the tree so the male cones don'
t commit selfcest.

Sorry I call all trees with needles pine trees

same. with like 5 seconds consideration i can identify it properly but my brain always defaults to 'pine' like i'm three and a half years old and just learned that word

This. Either order a gill net now or watch a vid on how to make them. Also, do a search for a guy named Ragnar Benson and gets his "poaching"/trapping books.

Humans are meat.

you can actually cd's with these

same for kudzu, if the curse be upon you

cd's nutz

gd it

There’s beach plums growing in my local beach. They fruit in the fall and nobody bats an eye at them so I harvest them alll.

DUDE WEED LMAO

I wonder if you can make kudzu vodka.. or make the starch can be attacked by some sprouts of something else or koji...

sodastream is israeli you fucking kike

Lots of vitamin C. I like white pine tea when I feel a cold coming on.

This is a fun one. Lots of this in the pacific north west, in British Columbia and Washington there are fields of this stuff just waiting to be harvested. Wild asperagus.

a1.png - 300x300, 80.6K

Basically starch is starch, so malt enzymes will break it down the same as the native barley starch. Koji might represent a challenge though, the breathable grain substrate structure is important

I wonder if the inulin in jerusalem fartichokes could be attacked by koji and turned to fructose.

Aspergillus tubingensis can do it but that's not an edible aspergillus like koji

Jerusalem Fartichoke Vodka... now there's a project

oh shit oh fuck

Some place in south america used to make "beer" by having the women sit around a container and chew corn then spit it into the container. The amylase in the saliva did the conversion to sugar.

Japan was that way too once

can you eat these off norway pines?

I have wild asperagus in my area. One time we had some and my kid puked while he was pissing the odor was so strong.

A know a gal who pickles those.
I go to see her to uh, buy a case of pickled pine tips now and then.

Wrong polymer bond

probably drift from pasture grass mix for cattle

Cow shit was always a good source of silly sabin for desert parties growing up. Got laid a lot but some of them were possibly aliens.

I do

I just harvested some spruce tips yesterday. Also a bunch of wild mint. Now we're dehydrating them and going to make some mint/spruce tea with them.

Also did dandelion root coffee and dandelion flower syrup/jam last month, which tastes amazing.

In what circumstances would you eat spruce buds over fiddlehead?

OIP (27).jpg - 360x480, 45.02K

pretty much every mushroom or fungus you find in the forest in north america is edible, the only danger you face eating random mushrooms from the woods is finding a magic one, have fun fellow mycologists!

I'm afraid of trout lilies as I've heard they're an emetic and were used by Indians as a way to induce abortion (aka probably not good for you). But I did harvest some wild leeks/ramps last month.

Allegedly carcinogenic.

induce miscarriage

Had a couple wild lettuce leaves earlier today to see if I'd get any kind of high off them. Nothing noticeable happened.

These are called 'pin cherries' or 'fire cherries', they grow in the north east, hence the scientific name prunes pensylvanica. A bit tart, but can be turned into a nice jelly. Typically ripe around middle of June.

It doesn't have a high/addiction, just pain relief. It used to be grown commercial for pain relief but addictive drugs are more profitable.

Stinging nettle, but not for pregnant or breast feeding women.

Also, choke cherries. Bears always get mine.

I harvest hundreds of pounds of wild apples. Some of the varieties around NB are better than any at the grocery store. Others are terrible, you never know till you try.

Doubtful. i usually blanchis or boil them anyway before pan stirring them.

mullberry bery you can eat " amla ' its called , you can make also pine soup out of any pine, you can eat certain nuts if you boiled, you can eat fenugreek and use it for first aid, cow urine is the most sterile if you get a cut or wound, add cow urine from Brahman cattle or any of the other top 5 breeds, the properties of it are healing. trust me itso works

Very commen use of medicine and survival plants and herbal medicine here in europe

wild mint is great.
you can get a lot of blueberries from grown over forest fire burn spots. used to know a guy with maps of 'em. would trawl through reading about where burns happened.

I have never seen these growing wild.

I'm an old timer. I just eat them and spit out the pit. I have 4 massive clumps of them on my morning walk. By the time they are good and ripe for choke cherry wine the bears come and get them.

Best apple I ever had in my life was from a 150 year old tree with its roots in the ocean near a light house on the Olympic Peninsula. They were the size of a soft ball.

Also, i harvested 6lbs of rhubarb today, 5 for wine and 1 for rhubarb compote.

how can i get goose berrys or red currents i hear european love them, i hear they are healthy good for jams

Bears always get mine.

iktf
At least the do well down in the valley but I have to drive down the mountain to harvest therm

You should try and get some Saskatoon bush. Like blueberries but from a bush and tons of them.

Yeah, I'm in a river valley.

Bird magnet

perhaps just net them, i did this with some of my berry plants its just enough to not let them get through but still get sunlight. i do want to try it , wonder if its possible to get into customs legally

I've been trying to get a hold of some haskap bushes but no luck so far.

I was walking around San Francisco the other month when I came across a tree with delicious looking fruits. ChatGPT said it was a strawberry tree. Nice fruits.

Blueberry bushes are very common in my neck of the woods. The easy to access spots usually get picked pretty early in the season, though I know a secret crown land lake with an island on it that's absolutely filled with blueberry bushes even late in the season. Way more than you could harvest in a day.

Here, have a (Yew)

Rhubarb wine

I never thought about doing that, I might give it a shot

Carlos!

Wow that looks cool, I didn't know such a plant exists

Steppe moment.

Don't get yeeted by a bear

its a fern

Another survival plant is clover. Every part is edible and apparently the roasted roots are delicious. I've had the flower head cooked in pancakes and it was interesting.

Was fun. Later lads.

Apparently we're doing this on bant now. I hope I didn't get a ban. Fucking jannies

This Thread is so white it got moved to bant kek all americans and one kazikstani

You should go to fourchanorg but get the F out
