When I was a teenager we used to ferment cider with just the plastic bottle they came in with a tube poked into the top running into a jar full of water. Add yeast (and possibly sugar?) and just wait.
Look up "pruno" recipes on youtube. Inmates in prisons brew hooch in mop buckets or toilets using raisins, ketchup and jolly ranchers. Shit isn't rocket surgery, distillation involves more equipment and if you fuck it up you can go blind or die, though if you really wanted to become an island unto yourself building a still and doing some ethanol for fuel would be OK. There's a book about it, I forget the name, where people discuss using lawn clippings, food waste from bakeries, or just whatever is cheapest source of starch/sugar to make ethanol for fuel.
A lot of that shit only really works in suburbs though, as the farther you get into the country (at least here) there's a line for people to haul away food waste for hog feeding or other organic waste for composting and similar or people just have room on their property to deal with that shit without having to pay someone to haul it away.

You have to do it a step at a time. Focus on decreasing your reliance on the system. The most important thing is to buy a home (or just land and park a trailer) with a well in a low property tax area. It's hard to do now, and you will have to accept very low quality housing, but you will be much freer if you can swing it.
After that, get solar power, chickens for protein, and plant a garden.
You used to be able to do all of this for cheap, maybe $60K before COVID. Now it is probably more like $200K but that isn't necessarily out of reach for most people if you have good goycredit and savings. You can do all this on a half acre and cut your reliance on the system by maybe 90%. A full acre can cut your reliance by 95%. 5 acres by 99, and 10 acres you can be completely self sufficient and productive on top of that. But that will of course cost a fortune and you will need heavier and heavier equipment for the larger tracks. Half acre you can handle with just your own muscle power and basic lawn equipment and tools.

You will not be self reliant on a quarter acre period, but a henhouse doesn't need to be big if you're not letting them out to forage. Fox, bobcat, coons, and coyotes will fuck you up if you keep birds though and if you don't have a rifle there it's best to not attempt to let your birds run wild.

I figured out a new method to make a value added product out of a locally produced food. Scaled up and semi automated from methods that locals have used in their little farm stands and gift shops.
I sell the top ranked product in that category on Amazon Prime and am known and respected among the community of people in my industry.
I have also spent the last several years working in local government to try to stem the tide of small town corruption, over the last few months I've filed suit in Superior Court for some email and accounting records and have found enough evidence that 3 people in my town government resigned and we have reported evidence of fraud to the Department of Commerce.
That's just this year though and I've missed a couple years due to major surgeries and that slowed me down a bit.
