Really? Methadone clinics here won't even give you clonodine to withdrawal or even help taper once you get low. Rehabs don't either as far as I know — just the basics like anti diarrhea/ Imodium , aspirin etc then bupe once you're not at risk or precipitated withdrawal. They'll try and keep you on it too after so you're stuck on le legal opioid.

Gabapentin will help with withdrawals but its not a miracle drug. If you're coming off a daily habit cold turkey, you're still going to feel it.

its basically a proto-pregabalin that is only indicated now to help treat severe nerve pain along other strong meds (because pregabalin would be too strong)

There's nothing wrong with using medication to improve your life. IF it ACTUALLY improves it. Anon Babble is correct that Big Pharma pushes meds that you make your life worse.

But not all medication is bad.

I have constant nerve pain from an accident and I take gabapentin (similar to Lyrica) and Effexor to control the pain. It's far better than using opiates. I hate the way it fuzzes my thinking and makes me forgetful, but it's far preferable to being incapacitated with severe pain.

If it works for you and you are actually sleeping, then it is good. The question of long term benefit is something you'll have to research.
