Okay, I think the sunset is pretty important to kingdom hearts even though it’s never implicitly stated or pointed out.

I think the sunset has to do primarily with alienation, at least, there’s actually no correct word or term for what I want to describe, but it’s a real thing and I think it falls under the concept of alienation as defined primarily by Karl Marx, though it means more then simply being removed from your labor and the means of production. I haven’t really been able to find anyone to really talk to about it, but yet I have found basically confirmation about its existence through paintings, and video games and movies, but pretty much everything including music to an extent.

It might be intrinsically monumental or revolutionary to even point that out,
But it’s basically something you feel or you don’t feel.

I think it has also been featured as a concept in movies, video games and paintings too. Like it’s a real thing. Well, I guess that’s why it’s never been fully defined because it is in essence revolutionary.

But anyway the sunset can be quite drab,
but also quite colorful and full of feeling. The sunset is and has always been one of my favourite landscapes or times of day to be featured.

I think people often like reoccurring themes or motifs in their photos, well for me it would be the sunset, that’s my favorite motif.

Anyway, I think generally the sunset means or represents alienation, but it also represents a few other things. I think because it’s in between the day and the night I think it’s supposed to represent this duality, and serves to exist basically between what are distinctly separate and are linked to almost separate worlds.

The day and the night represent two different halves, and basically when the sunset is featured it’s basically like saying you’re in between both halves. It’s basically like a question that’s served, so do you want to stay there in between or do you want to cross over

The sunset is really pertinent in kingdom hearts, basically the world in KHs is set between light and darkness, the idea is that if you fall to darkness you become a nobody.

The sunset basically postulates that the world of KHs hangs in the balance between light and darkness, but it casts a grey tone for its world and characters not really found present in the main story. In fact, KHs is actually pretty morally gray and hard to understand overall though it’s not obvious I guess, as if they fear if it was too obvious they would lose part of their fanbase and kid friendly perception.

Here’s KHs 1 intro, where the sunset is featured again. The sunset is featured quite regularly when Kairi and Sora appear in the same place at once. I think this means there is an ambiguous reason for keeping them apart but also it implies they must traverse both the reaches of light and darkness if they wish to be reunited. But it’s bittersweet really.

I think the sunset proceedes the night symbolically and metaphorically. But it’s like another world altogether.
