80 bucks for fucking mario kart?

acting like ive never heard of warez
lol

Any Millennial kid remembers the 90s and how ridiculous cartridge prices were 1995-2000 on the SNES and N64. Sometimes you have N64 games priced like $100 and I'm not exaggerating. And that was in 90s currency, so really it was like, I dunno, $250 for a game by today's standards.

So with that in consideration, $80 games today really isn't too bad. This is the price AFTER the massive hyperinflation we suffered during the Biden years. Prices are never going to go back to what they were before, because the dollar is no longer worth what it was then.

for stuff like mario kart, gta 6 or fifa, i don't think it's outrageous provided the online has support and updates
the online will be played for years and that's why most people buy these games

there is no standard today of what a good game is. they just all call themselves good and problem is 98% of those are shit.
good games released lately:
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
IDK
literally is the only game worth maybe if its long enough, 80$

I already possess 10,000 games.
Why would I buy more? I can't even play all of these before I die.

The "good old days" of gaming (or really anything for that matter) seem great in retrospect, but people conveniently overlook the fact that 98% of old games were also stinkers. You had trash games like Superman64 and well just watch AVGN where he covers a lot of examples of old garbage games. That should put it into perspective that there's really always been both good and trash at any time.

Its just that only the good stuff gets cherry picked and people forget everything else. People will cherry pick gems like Super Mario 64 or whatever and compare that with trash from today. But without that cherry picking its really not so different in terms of quality.

yea there were shit games but you could rent them

I used to take back games and say they sucked to kmart. they'd let me return them. I swear they made all this you cant return/refund games anymore thing because of me. I done it so much. I kept going back and returning games until one day they told me, this is the last time. then that is when I noticed they stopped doing this.

probably me and literally a bunch of other people who did the same thing but

anyway you could rent games for a day. Can you do that now? 2 fucking hours; fuck you steam, is NOT enough. they make half the games a 2 hour intro unskippable. No let me rent it for 24 hours and then we'll see you shit heads make something good or not.

Game rentals dont exist anymore niggerfaggot. So all games claim they are good while they are in fact, 98% not.

Kids these days dont know what inflation is.

all the good games cost 15 dollars or less and are made by 1-3 person teams

i don't fucking care what they charge for this shit or if it all crashes and burns, there will still be people making better games for 15 dollars max

Ain't nothing to buy

be GTA6

sell game for $100

sell maybe 50million copies

people are mad at the price, bad vibe around the game

because of bad vibe people will shit on the game because of even minor bugs that will undoubtedly exist

public perception on the internet will be negative

doesn't even come close to replicating the success of GTA5

vs

be GTA6

sell game for $50

easily sell 100million copies

its a digital product so you earn just as much cash, except you get a bunch of free advertisement and publicity

people are happy about the price, good vibe around the game

because of good vibes, people will laugh and make memes about even minor bugs that will undoubtedly exist

public perception on the internet will be positive

becomes a cultural phenomenon for years to come that might even beat GTA5's records

please someone explain to me why they will probably choose the first option anyways?
It doesn't make any fucking sense, do they really think they can just pump up the prices endlessly and people will still buy their goyslop even in todays economy? Not for fucking $100 in todays economy. $50? everyone and their mom will buy it they'll make twice the sales EASILY, but $100? Nah, they'll get greedy and probably get fucked.

gta 6 will cost $2000 on launch

Not to defend these companies, but there were literally 80 dollar Nintendo games in the early 1990s.

Those came with a phonebook size manual and scratch n sniff stickers. These ones come with microtransactions

I'd rather play any of these than whatever the new perma-online shootfest is this year.

Fpbp
I'd pay 70-80 for a really good game. Havent seen any in years.

disingenuous bullshit argument, wages have not increased to match prices and everything else wasn't as fucking expensive as it is now either, you weren't alive back then so you wouldn't know

That's true, but the point is that the price of everything 30 years ago, in general, was far cheaper than now. By that standard, 150-200 dollars a game today would be expected, if not desirable.

disingenuous bullshit argument

No, it's not, and you're getting way too upset about someone disagreeing with you about the prices of time wasters.

The last high quality video game I bought was RDR 2, that game looked incredible and kept me entertained for a good 80+ hours.

Just wait til they put it on gamepass and play it for free duh.

you weren't alive back then so you wouldn't know

Also, I was, and am probably older than you.

When you say "Game rentals" I don't think of being new games from a retail store, playing them, then returning them. But they had places like Blockbuster you paid a rental fee and could play them for a few days, then you had to return them. Stuff like that no longer exists anymore, sadly. But that was a good way of coping with the very high price of cartridges back then.

Steal

Choose how to use their money

I don't think this man understands what steal means.

Only a jap could say something so utterly out of touch and expect it to sound convincing.

I don't think there's been a game worth $60 in ten years.

umm elden ring?

Thrown together Dark Souls simulator but spread out so you need a magic horse just to get by.

i remember paying £50 for N64 cartridges about 25 years ago, there again that was absolute iconic kino and not this throwaway shite

It should be noted to the less financially savvy among us that most new release of games tank in price in less than a year. Most new games are half off or discounted pretty quickly after a year, buying a game at full price in current year is nothing more than signaling you're "hardcore" to others. Nintendo is the only one that doesn't go too deep discount, best you can get from them is usually like 33% off. I honestly think gaming's business model has more to do with subscriptions, merchandising and socializing people within a game world to keep people loyal to the developer that made the game for return milking. I honestly wonder when a game is "too old" for profit/return on the game ceases to matter. Based on how deep discounts are, not too much, which is why 80 bucks seems so outrageous. Half off 80 is 40, instead of 60 bucks to 30 which is (was) current gen pricing.

You know gaming is mainstream and not what it used to be when most consumers choose not to minmax prices.

and to stop you from -the point here about all this stupid "its low prices" shit - trap of getting an 80$ game and it being SHIT. you CANT keep from doing that now. they think they fucking own you and fuck them. Its all IP law and it and them and everyone in on it can go to hell. Free flow of information, claiming CHina steals muh copyrights, is stupid. Can they make anything worth a shit? No. Is that going to ever propel us as a civilization, by copying and whining that they are steawing off of us? NO. your idiots for thinking IP which casued this to happen is worth any fucks and isn't just literally just stealing in itself

fine dont play games

kill yourself

I remember when N64 games were like $110 when i was a kid. I know none of you are kids, but actually fat retarded man children, but still.

if you say some retarded shit i am going to call you retarded, you attempt to shift the focus on to your perception of someone being upset and the subject being trivial rather than you being a dishonest retard

if it doesn't matter then leave the thread and take your trash with you

If you paid that much, it was an individual retailer upcharging you. N64 games maxed out at $60 without an upcharge. And just because there's been inflation, higher prices than that aren't necessary. A lot of game sales now are digital, and there's more consumers. They'll simply take what they think they can get, and I don't think the average AAA quality is $80

Bethesda just tried by slapping $80 (~$86 here) on the latest Doom. Player numbers is low as fuck.
So yeah, Former Playstation Exec should know that people actually do care and wait for a deep sale instead of accepting your price gouging.

You're being a whiny little faggot having a chimpout because I posted documented evidence of the prices of video games decades ago. You're mad because you might have to pay the same amount of money today for a game that kids were paying nearly two generations ago. And to top it off you're bitching at me to get out of the thread because you're such a butthurt little nigger. Tongue my anus if you don't like it.

meanwhile you can buy actual good games made back in the 90s/00s for almost nothing

Adults these days dont know what economies of scale, supply chain efficiency, competition etc are

don't fucking care what they charge for this shit

proceeds to ragepost when shown what they charged for this shit decades ago

kek

50 million

You fucking wish. People already struggle buying 80€ games, charging 100 upfront will make way more people reconsider. There's no real need to buy an expensive game anyway. It will fucking fail hard because they are too retarded to put the price tag into micro transactions instead of charging it upfront.

Reminder that any costs that the gaming industry may have gained due to bloated staff and bloated salaries was completely offset and then some by the fact that you can't buy physical games anymore. That completely removed the cost of actually manufacturing the games and these days even if you go to a physical store and buy a modern game the inside simply contains a code for a digital download.

Also keep in mind that salaries have NOT kept up with inflation and in fact many industries across the US are suffering massive layoffs and even white collar work is no longer safe from minimum wage.

clair obscur released last month

please someone explain to me why they will probably choose the first option anyways?

They always drop the prices of games over time. Charging that high of a price to begin with is just a way to fleece early adopters who refuse to wait. Reviews at first might trend to being negative and sales might be slower, but this doesn't matter in the long run. These companies are playing the long game.

Then a year later, the game is half the price, sales start to pick up, and reviews trend to be more favorable.

"Review bombing" games can easily be undone over time. Do you remember the controversy over No Man's Sky when it first launched? Reviews on Steam at first got the game down to as low as only 9% positive user reviews at first. But now you look at the reviews on that game and it is overwhelmingly positive.

Slow sales and negative initial reviews simply do not matter at all in the long run. If you understood how the long game works then you would understand this. This company executives DO understand this.

They're maximizing their profits by getting extra money out of early adopters. But they will STILL get just as many sales in the long run from everyone else after the price gets dropped.

Don't forget eventually these games will end up $20 and maybe even 75% off that in a Steam sale. I'm talking like a decade or more from now so it won't be anytime soon, but still. If you can't or don't want to pay $100 on a game, then don't. Just wait and play the long game and then you can get it cheap. But even sold cheap still counts as a sale, and adds into however many millions of copies these games sell.

you haven't actually supported your argument in any way, you posted prices and ignored everything else
therefore you are a faggot and not worth any additional interaction

1745549140897862.png

This is what I was talking about earlier with cartridge prices in the 90s. And as bad as these are, it was even worse than that for N64 games. I remember buying Mortal Kombat trilogy for like $100 or something. And that was in 90s money.

Consequently I never owned many N64 games. It was just too expensive for me as a kid.

Anon Babble is going to be flooded with WEBMs of every graphical and performance hiccup with the OP “>$100 video game with 8 years of development time.”

what it does do immediately is raise competition for those early buyers who have more or less fixed disposable income(in reality declining)
will likely mean even more homogenization of game development as they all compete for the same audience and more failed games/dead studios

console = spics & niggers, only problem with $80 for console games is that Whites will be paying for them via welfare gibs.

Someone, post that TheQuartering tweet.

you haven't actually supported your argument in any way

I posted proof that these prices existed decades ago. How is that not proof?

ignored everything else

You mean I ignored you saying

WAHHHHHHH ONLY GOOD GAMES ARE 15 DOLLARS OR LESS

Yeah, because you provided no proof of your claim, which is the opposite of what I did.

therefore you are a faggot and not worth any additional interaction

Except your butthurt ass will inevitably demand the last word, so lol.

i dont get how people are outraged about it. everything doubled in price and half as much in it for food. hyper inflation from covid still going on and people want games to be only thing in existence to not change price even on new platforms.

If you paid that much, it was an individual retailer upcharging you. N64 games maxed out at $60 without an upcharge.

No, they didn't. I don't remember what store I bought it from or when. But anyway, here's an ad I found showing MK Trilogy at $75 at Toys R Us. I remember it being $100 even, but I don't remember where and maybe it was upcharging as you said. But no matter what place sold it, it was always higher than Nintendo's cartridges.

I think 3rd party games like this might have cost more because they made them pricier on purpose because they had to license the carts from Nintendo. Nintendo made the carts themselves so could afford to charge them cheaper for their own stuff. I guess.

"High quality" means bloated DEI and social media departments. Get in with the modern audience chuds.

Re-read what he said carefully.
He's literally right.

All the new games are goyslop. I sold my ps5 and got a ps3 with over a hundred games for 60 bucks. Feels good.

console = spics & niggers, only problem with $80 for console games is that Whites will be paying for them via welfare gibs.

Whites are forced to pay them gibs no matter what anyway. If they didn't blow them on overpriced console slop, then it would just be on something else. They're not getting additional gibs because of this, they're just wasting it in a different way then they otherwise would.

LMAO
Fitgirl is a steal

My Girlfriend really wanted to play Mariokart with her family over the holidays and they were about to drop a couple hundred bucks on all that nintendo shit but instead I downloaded ryzu and hooked that shit up to their tv for a few days until they got it out of their system.

don't watch the movie then chud 2: its not for you electric boogaloo

My PS5 is my secondary console to my Switch. At this point I have zero interest in the PS6 when it comes out. I have so many PS4 and Switch era games on my backlog to last me another 10 years.
