The idea that "nature will take care of it", as others have said, is indeed true. But that applies to everything, including humans. If a human has lung cancer then eventually "nature will take care of it" and they'll die an excruciating death. But would I want to go through that? No. I'm fine with applying the same logic to an animal that I would apply to myself.
